I don't know if the STF is still working out bugs or not so I thought I better make my problem known. I e-mailed Doc yesterday but no reply yet. Here is the prob. When I log in, my password is not honored. So, I have to get a new password each time. Even though I click on the box to remember me and automatically log me in, If I close the STF completely, I will not be able to post or view some of the pages when I return, unless I get a new password again. Someone please rescue me!
Thanks
Ron

Re: Need new password everytime I visit
i have to log in everytime i come, even though cookies are enabled and i click the box to automatically log me in...i have a direct link to "new topics" bookmarked and it makes me sign in, then that causes it to tell me there are no new postings since my last visit...very frustrating...i have had problems like the latter above since the site first started changing after the hackings....it has actually forced me to use other sites more than this one...a shame really, but not worth the trouble sometimes....i do not have these problems on five other PHP web forums that i frequent....Plastermaster wrote:I don't know if the STF is still working out bugs or not so I thought I better make my problem known. Log in should be working.
Go delete all STF cookies from your pc, reboot and log back in to STF. Updated cookies will be installed. The old cookies are causing the problem, I think. This solution has fixed the problem for all that I'm aware of. If this does not work, please email me directly at [email protected]. Dont' suffer all that extra work.

Thanks Doc! It worked for me. I tried it a couple weeks ago, but this time I accessed the cookies differently and found a whole swarm of'em that couldn't have been deleted last time. If anyone else has trouble and you have windows, click start at bottom left, then click run, and then type "cookies" in the window (leave off the quote marks).

Ron,
Thanks for the follow up. Most parts of the board are working now. (biggest miss is still the auto-reply system)
There are still a few people contacting me with log in or page loading problems. In all cases, these problems have been caused by the users machine and old STF cookies!!
It is beyond my abilities to help people delete cookies from their machines, as all pc's are a little different. So, each of us will have to find a way to ferret out the offending cookies. But, for those who do, it will solve almost all STF issues.
That said, for those who do experience problems with the board, please report to [email protected].

P.S. - The Mozilla Firefox browser (free download and nice browser, IMO), has a tool called Cookie Manager. I used this (suggested by another STF member) to locate all the cookies on my machine and found them to be in more than one file location in WindowsXP Pro. Not only did I eleiminate all my old STF cookies, I eliminated almost all cookies. I did this with some trepidation, thinking I would lose passwords and account access, etc, to other sites. But, after a couple of weeks, I have missed nothing and my pc is definitely peforming better. Everyone might consider this as an option. I think few would have regrets.
