Remove images from signatures

Post by Glenn »

Images in signatures not only takeup alot of bandwidth, they are also abnoxious when someone has a number of posts in the same topic.

For example, take a look at this topic and you'll see what i mean.

http://shoptalkforums.com/viewtopic.php ... 60aa7f0c2e

The same can be said for large avatars.

This just demonstrates that there should be limits.

I agree - There are Mod's that can be applied to limit sizes of attachments and avatars - it can also be set in the admin panel...

Couldn't agree more! There is a mod(s) for phpbb that limits the size of both avatars and pictures. As a matter of fact, it will take any submitted picture and reduce it to a size that would be acceptable. I would really like to get these upgrades installed.

But, our problem remains the same. I need a webmaster. I am currently talking to a service in California that may be able to help. This is like my 10th attempt and this guy is now a couple of days late getting back to me. Maybe it will work out.

Anyway, this particular issue is WAY up on the list. Thanks.

Actually they don't. If the same image is used per avatar & signature image only a trivial amount of bandwidth is required. Your browser doesn't load the image more than once, it just displays it X times. Glenn are you doing something screwy with your browsers cache?

But a long text in signature does add length to a posting (scroll down more). Being text, it isn't bad even on rural dial up. Now wide images or text that doesn't horizontally break I agree with banning.

So really this is a issue with requesting/requiring/enforcing tastefully short avatar & sig & sig image.

You're 100% right.

I guess my brain took a short brake when I posted that.

If my avatar bothers anyone...your either a female or just a flat out homosexual. By pressing ESC it will stop the gif. Just an FYI. But if you need me to remove it, I will.
