Gathering Parts for Microsquirt need advice on VR sensor

Hello,

I'm new to the forums, I have been reading a lot. I have a 1600DP Baja Beetle I'm looking to put a turbo and microsquirt EFI. Initially I would like to use the microsquirt for ignition only. I have a small budget issue, as in it will not support a bad a$$ thedushop.com system.

Is there any recommendation on a type or Part number VR sensor to use? I plan on using a 32-1 wheel: GM TPS, IAT, ECT and Map sensor.

Old school Ford escort trigger wheels can be found at local pick and pull places. I used Late 90s Taurus triggers on mine. Escort sensors work good. Early 90s on the escorts.

I'm using a Ford sensor which I got new from Triggerwheels.



I also got the 36-1 toothed wheel, Ford coil pack, connectors and various other bits from them.

Not the cheapest but very helpful and they have most if not all of the bits you'll need.

The pulley is an OEM VW component and the 36-1 wheel is from Trigger Wheels. It was welded to the pulley then trued on a lathe. Runout has to be minimised to get a consistent VR signal.

I am using the MS 2 v3 to drive the ignition so the distributor is not needed.

You don't need a cam position sensor unless you want to run timed or sequential injection.

Another question. Did you run your return fuel line through the tunnel? Or external to the body?

It seems like everyone here runs their fuel lines a little different.. some inside the tunnel, others outside. They all work.

Some use the stock fuel line as a return, and run a separate sometimes larger (big hp turbo motors) main line.

I abandoned the stock line and ran two 3/8" stainless steel lines inside the tunnel.

If you plan on off-roading your Baja, inside the tunnel is the best place. You will have to secure it in a few places so it doesn't bounce around in there and rub a hole in itself. This is the best, but also the most difficult place to run the line.
