I have ordered the digilent 410-218 RTC too. It's connected to my MS3 and I can set the time. But if I powercycle the MS3 it's loosing the time information. Back up Battery is mounted but doesn't back-up the unit.
Did you have the same problem and if yes how did you fix it?

Solved, it's working now just repeated the set-up process 3 times...

Yep I had a similar issue I thought it was a wiring issue and re-soldered my wires but yes it worked after I setup the time a few times now it works great

sorry to bring up this old topic, but I've been looking for this alternative module for a while and Im so glad I found this.

would this module also work? It has the same name "Digilent 410-218", but a little different layout as the one in this topic:

I wired mine with 30ga kynar wire wrapping wire, then secured it with a blob of hot melt glue, additional dab to secure the battery.
I have the same one here, backside says copyright 2011.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
