loud Walbro fuel pump

Post by markvwguy »

So, I have a Walbro GSL392 pump 255 lph I got it because it seems what people are selling for megasquirt. It primes quietly, but after running it becomes very loud. My pressure regulator hooked to vacuum shows 35lbs. running. The old Bosch did not run loud.

Saab turbo.2.5bar regulator, changed over from VW regulator. Saab regulator holds pressure far longer after shut down the the VW reg. 8mm feed line ,factory T1 carb. return line. 1969 VW T1.

My fear is pump failure over heat. For years I used a Bosch (vanagon, bus) pump. Should I buy a new Bosch inline, or can I make this pump run quieter.

Mine is kinda loud too. But I've been running it for at least 8 years without an issue other than the noise. It's much quieter than my last pump though, which was an MSD 2225. They are rated to for intank use if you don't want to hear it at all :P

Made some changes today. I had the pump set up with Banjo fittings to save space. swapped out the banjo fittings with straight fittings on the pump and filter. Nice and quiet now. For mounting the pump I used an OEM VW mount. All rubber mount from VR6 coolant electric water pump. One on each end.

It seems the Walbro does not like Banjo fittings. I Got the idea from CIS injection pump to filter set up , but that pressure is much higher.

I got the fittings from Bel-Metric. They have all the right German/Euro selection of Coline and cool metric hoses and fittings.

The pump it a real Walbro, I bought on line.

Good to hear! I don't offer a banjo solution myself but with 8mm barbs. That will give me info to move forward with. It must just load the pump more since it isn't a straight fitting. A couple months back I sent a client to Bel for banjo fittings. I'm not sure he has started up yet, but I don't hope he has the same issue... I'll email him not to find out though.
