Mallory 4305M

Post by Chip Birks »

I am ready to throw my FPR in the dumpster!!! The thing keeps on leaking, I can't seem to get it to stop. I've now tried two sealants with it. The Motoseal blew out violently, with high pressure spray coming from about 4 spots on the cap. The last stuff I used was Kuril-t, it did no better than the plain old dry diaphragm. I'm at a loss here. Anyone else ever dealt with this issue with this Reg? It has a brand new diaphragm. It used to work great, no problems.

Maybe the sealing surfaces need to be sanded flat? Grab some 1000 grit and a piece of glass.

I had a similar thought, but one of them has a very small ridge all the way around, I think it is designed to pinch the diaphragm and hold it tight against the other half, I don't want to sand that away. Last night I picked up some Seal All from the local flaps. It pretty much glues the part together, but at this point I don't really care anymore. If it has more issues, I'll just replace it.

I believe he's saying new sealant still leaks, and he ordered a different reg.

Chip... What ya doing with the old Mallory? I've got one of these and wouldn't mind spare parts if your going to bin it.

New one arrived. Works great, this one used to work fine. I'm wondering if I warped the top at one point when changing out its guts. I'm gonna hang onto it, Mallory will repair it, cost will be fair. I have other EFI project plans in the future
