EDIS check list
Hello,
In my daily at the minute I have a 1200sp, and as I'll be switching to ms and injection on my big build along with edis, I thought I'd have a play on this 1200. Not for power gains, just for curiosity and reliability.
So, is this all I need.
36-1 trigger wheel on the pulley.
Ford sensor
Ford coil pack
Make up some HT leads.
Is that all or am I missing something here, where by you need to be running a standalone ecu anyway to run this to sort timing ect?
Thanks
Andy

Re: EDIS check list
You forgot the EDIS module and something to control it, or you'll only get 10* timing at all times. Search for Megajolt to run the ignition standalone, or simply use the MS in spark only mode.

miniman82 can provide a better answer than I can but I believe you will need a Megajolt in order to control/adjust the timing. Without an ECU, your timing will always be 10 degrees BTDC.
If you're switching to MS and fuel injection, the MS unit will control the timing if you make sure to get the MS Extra. I'm running MS1 V2.2 with the extra code for ignition timing and don't know if the later versions already include the "extra" as standard or not so you'll have to do a little homework. At any rate, I don't think you can run the EDIS setup by itself without some sort of ECU/controller.

ahhhhh ok, i guess it would make sense to get MS and run it with that, rather then megajolt, as i'll be using MS on the big engine anyway and can just swap it over.....
now to read up on the differances between MS1,2,3 lol also its so mucn more expensive over here in the UK!!!

If you plan on going MS anyway, drop the EDIS module and do it all with MS. I don't see the need for an extra piece to the puzzle. I'm running my MS with crankfired igntion, and never have had an EDIS module.

I'm with Eaallred, don't worry about getting edis module is your going with MS, just direct fire that bish.
Here is the list of stuff you'll need:
trig wheel
VR sensor
shield wire for the VR
coil packs
Bosch BIP373 coil drivers( 1 per coil pack, and you'll only need then if your coils aren't self igniting)
MS1/MS2/MS3 with extra code
I'm running MS1 w/MSextra, 4 BIP373's, 4 denso coil sticks (COPs) from a gixxer. It works!

OK so its just the trigger wheel, sensor, coil pack that i need... and MS?
looking at http://www.glensgarage.com/catalog/mega ... -p-29.html that, is that what i need? does MS1 contain what i need?
Thanks

are the ford coil packs self igniting, theres loads of fiesta's and escorts in the UK

The older ones are not, but some of the newer ones are likely to work.andy198712 wrote:are the ford coil packs self igniting, theres loads of fiesta's and escorts in the UK
VWs use integral igniters, likely many GM vehicles we never see this side of the pond do as well.
(LSX coils are nice to work with)
I'm personally not warm and fuzzy on port fuel injection on a single port, a center mount TB/injector(s) might be a better plan, with manifold heat. (basically use the stock carb/manifold, yank the vent, plug a few jets)
To get it even close to working right with port injectors, you would need MS2 and to use the oddfire semi/sequential modes
(like for a old Mini, in order to get the correct amount of fuel in each cylinder)
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Re: EDIS check list
See I was reading on this, and can MS1 do that too? As it has benifits at idle and low rpm but isn't possible (easily) at mid to high rpm.... As you can't physically get the amount of fuel needed in the port in such a short space of time?
I was just going to use the carb to control the fuel to get going.... Although your idea is good! Just drill and weld in a bung or run a small engined vw golf TB.....? Hmmmmmm
I've seen ms1 cheaply from the link above which is why I ask if its any good.... What would I benifit from having MS2 over that?
Thanks for your input, I've been looking through megamanual and the likes

Re: EDIS check list
MS1 is fine for a lot of setups, but it cannot do timed/sequential fuel.
MS2 (with some mods to the mainboard and MS2) or MS3 is needed for injection timing control.
If you went with a heated manifold and a TBI setup (or equivalent) it would work at least as well as a carb, but with programmable ignition.
Worth it for the ignition... Probably not so much for the fuel control, due to the SP heads.
