Here is a pic as I was assembling the first production run of Mini Cam Sync's. What a roller coaster it had been to this point :shock:

Not at all. I should have 10 more in the next couple days. The trigger wheels are being counterbored as we speak.

Yes, I still plan on doing those.

I work on it here and there as they are requiring an almost ground up redesign to keep it compact. I think it will also have to be 2 pieces to access and install the trigger wheel since it will not slide through the shaft seal that I incorporated into the current model. That isn't a feature I want to give up. Nobody likes oil leaks.

User update:

I've been running one of Mario's cam syncs on my full sequential MS3X controlled 2056cc in my Squareback since late August. It's performed flawlessly while racing at Bonneville and in daily use since then. I could NOT be happier with it!!

I have been hard at work building more! Here are some pics from my second production run. These will be shipping during this next week. I though 30 would have been enough this time, I was wrong. You VW EFI guys are insatiable :mrgreen:

anyone have a mini sync sitting around they want to sell me? Theres a bit of a wait before the next batch is run and I want one now!

When is the next round of mini syncs? Figured I would just ask here where everyone can see, apposed to clogging up your inbox.
Also, any word on the cam+crank sensor that you (Mario) were messing around with?

They are a couple months away. But I am taking pre orders. The machine shop has a 6 week lead time as of now and I need a coupe weeks to get them assembles and tested.

I really wanted to get the new ones into production but everyone has kept me too busy. A good and bad problem to have at the same time :mrgreen:

Here is a 24-1 I had wire EMD cut. This is super tiny and super precise and also expensive.

Here is the scope shot, to bad it doesn't pick up the 1st tooth so well. So the 12-1 will have to do, I can get an 18-1 though that would probably work great but I think that would limit some ECU's options.

Did you try it with a "filled in///wide" missing tooth? (Rather than ground out/missing)

Made all the difference on my smallish 36-1 (OK, 36-2, but it was a welding accident) wheel.

The tooth pitch I'm running is little wider, and with pointy teeth.(its a $10 (in onsies/retail) steel spur gear for an RC truck)

I can probably weld that up for you as needed, at least so you could validate it works/not.
(hell, I can even test it)

Electromotive was always saying the smaller the wheel the less rpm you can run -- something like a max 7K on a 5" wheel -- have you tried spinning that up around 7-8K and looked at the signal???

Thanks Pile, I can weld it up to verify that. I have 2 to work with. What other brands can read a 36-2 though? I need them as universal as possible with the least amount of parts 8)

The 36-2 was an accident of welding settings, and a tooth unexpectedly wilted. :oops:
(didn't undo all the MIG pot settings for TIG w/remote, so 2T mode ramped to full current rather than following the pressure sensor under my thumbs signal)

I suspect most ECUs can read a 36-1.
A MS2e or MS3 would be fine with a 36-4 and maybe more, but its a lot more flexible than many "high end" ECUs...

7K max on a 5" wheel?
That's an Electromotive sensor limitation. Probably.
I tested the ~1.25" 36-1 I'm working with to >17K shaft RPM on a die grinder with my "home made" Hall sensor.
(literally as fast as I could spin it)

MS3 has no sync issues with it at least, or timing lag as far as I could see with the timing light.
(read ~nothing but junk with a ground out tooth tho)

I have machines at work that read 75K on a 10mm shaft with fine teeth ground on it.
Using a Hall sensor. (an expensive one I'm sure)

MS1 has an issue with very high tooth count wheels and max RPM, perhaps Elecromotive has similar hardware limitations?

Probably has a lot>mostly to do with the sensor used.
The one Electromotive sells is many (semiconductor design) generations old, it is a general purpose industrial unit.

Could you use a shape like that on the end of an IRS drive axle? I've made these shafts before, but don't know if the depth of the grooves is deep enough to work. Also, you might consider having a shaft hobbed for a gear at a gear manufacturer, then have your local machine shop cut them off into disks. I believe it would be cheaper than EDM.
