Awesome! Did you ever come up with an oem replacement for the ign-4 coil?

Ford EDIS would be as close a replacement as you could get. However, I found the guy that designed the IGN-4, and digital distributor it comes with :)

IIRC Redline Weber indicated at some point some Neon coils were higher output option vs. the EDIS coils, not sure where it falls exactly on the power scale as many things are not documented for OEM parts.

EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

More progress on this little guy. I have the proto here and sent out for some in car testing. It's gonna be a coupe weeks before I can get it into my car so I figured I would hand it out for some 3rd party input. Once I got and assembled the first unit I have already put some revisions into effect. I had originally though some press in keepers would be good to hold everything in place. I think they will get changed over to some more standard C-clips. Then to seal it up, I'm going to have to install some sort of oil seal inside. I have sourced a few types. Just need to decide on the final solution.

Anyway, here they be!

Mario--- many ball bearing are available with seals on one side or both.
I'm not sure if that will be sufficient, but it might.

Another option would be to rely on the fact that aluminum is transparent to magnetism, while still being a seal...
(make hole at top just a tiny bit larger than shaft size, and with no open window leaving a ~mm of aluminum)

I have a shaft seal that will seal up the the lower bearings and shaft form the electronics. It's sitting here on my desk. I can't make the pcb any smaller or move it out any further hence the window. Once this one is proved to work the pcb will be sealed up with a urethane conformal coating and it would even be possible to pot that area. A squirt of silicone in the body where the wires go threw will be applied as well. Since it's a proto I sent it out very bare bones for ease of use.

As for sealed bearings, I rather use the engines lubrication over a sealed version. And without getting something custom made the sealed bearings weren't upto the RPM that these are capable of spinning. Most topped out at 2500-3000rpm.

Consider the aluminum "window" for future designs...
Eliminates the need for a second seal.
