Hi, I own a recently rebuilt MEXICAN bug. Engine 1600 carburetor with Mexican electronic ignition. Now, the Bosch original no point distributor is gone. The one alternative here in Mexico seem to be the Bruck replacement. Bosch no longer makes the electronic distributors with vacuum advance. But my mechanic strongly advice against it. He calls the quality of those - "mierda". S**t.
I've been looking into importing one from US. The SVDA is an electronic distributor I was considering.
But according to the chart they advance a maximum of 18 degrees at 2500rpm. My mechanic say that is way over what this engine need. He claims a max of 5 is normal. I'm thinking he's wrong, but this is Mexico, maybe they built the engines different here? I run it on 92oct gas. Motor from around 1992(The car got a replacement engine for unknown reason, the car is a 1990)
The other option would be to go back to points(Though, still only option would be Bruck).
Is my mechanic mistaken or should the advance on my bug stop at only 5 degrees?
(If there's any crazy spelling it's because I'm on a tablet)
Thanks, Roger
