Opinions on CB Magnaspark Crank Trigger Kit
Wanted to get some opinions on CB's new Magna Spark Crank Trigger Kit part #2094. It has not been out long so there might now be any opinions yet, but you never know. My combo is a draw thru turbo setup with a 650 holley. I never plan on going efi and I want to get rid of my distributor so I have some more room in the engine bay ! Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Opinions on CB Magnaspark Crank Trigger Kit
Come on guys let me know what you think on this NEW setup. Are there other kits out there that can do the same as the cb kit ?
Here is the info on the kit and some of the things it can do.
#2094 - Complete Magnaspark Crank Trigger Ingition System and Data Logger with Boost Control
CB Performance has set the bar for ignition systems with the Magnaspark Crank Trigger Ignition System and Data Logger/Boost Controller.
This is a fully laptop-programmable ignition system with adjustable load+rpm boundaries. Timing control can be done MAP based or Alpha Numeric. Spark Table has a huge 26 x 26 matrix.
Our CNC Machined Trigger Wheel uses 36:1 tooth design for high resolution. The VR Sensor mount is made from 356/T6 Aluminum for superior strength.
The Magnaspark Crank Trigger Kit is also a Data Logger. Logging is done using a windows based PC. You can trigger data logging by an external switch or directly through your laptop computer.
Available inputs are:
RPM
Map
Head Temperature
Throttle Position
Ignition Timing
The Magnaspark Crank Trigger Kit incorporates Boost Control technology. Using the optional CB external Select-A-Boost, dial in 4 different boost settings by simply turning the dial. Each of the 4 boost levels are customizable. Over boost protection and turbo anti-lag technology is incorporated into the Magnaspark Crank Trigger Kit.
Features:
26 x 26 spark table
Adjustable High Rev Limit
Adjustable Two Step Rev Limit
Adjustable load and RPM boundaries
External Fan and Shift Light Control
3 Selectable general purpose outputs. RPM Trigger / Temperature Trigger / TPS Trigger
Data Log Technology
Boost Control Technology
Optional external "Adjust-A-Boost" boost level control
Over-boost protection / Turbo Anti-Lag Technology

Re: Opinions on CB Magnaspark Crank Trigger Kit
Does look like a nice kit. Have you looked into Megajolt? I'm running Megasquirt which controls ignition and fuel but can also be set to control ignition only which is what Megajolt does. I've been running this setup for over 2 years now and couldn't be happier.
The only thing that would concern me on the CB kit would be aftermarket support. Should you run into issues getting it setup/going, it might not be as easy to get the necessary information to get you running whereas the support for the MJ and MS systems here is unbeatable.
On the other hand, you may not have any issues getting it going as it proabaly is a straight-forward installation and configuration and you would be buying it from a reputable dealer. I think you could probably do the MJ or MS setup a bit cheaper but don't quote me on that.

Yes and no, they sell a datalog unit but the ignition control is separate from what I understand.

The Megajoltlite page says it will datalog.
Click on the megajoltlite picture then scroll down towards the bottom.

I think $559.00 is a little on the steep side for ignition.
You could look around for a used MS-1 and source the EDIS parts and be good to go for $300 -$400 depending on where you find the parts and if you can fab stuff up.
Or spend a bit more and upgrade to COP or CNP and be up to date.
There are lot's of ways to do it but CB's kit will be a bolt on experience.

That's pretty reasonable in price but you will have to figure out a way to mount the 36-1 wheel to the crank or buy a setup from your choice of venders.volksbugly wrote:oh I'm going to correct myself

It wouldn't be much more for a MS-1 kit and you can always update to FI for a nominal fee.
My feeling is once you have tasted crankfired ignition you will want to step up to FI.
I would go in a heart beat if I was working steady.

Don't feel bad, I made the same misteak, Boost Engineering sadly bit the dust, but they were just one of several Megajolt distributors.volksbugly wrote:oh I'm going to correct myself

Personally, I'd first talk to Mario and see what he can do for you with a MS1/wheel/harness turnkey setup.
The ability of having multiple vendors to pick from for support is IMHO important, as is something repairable.
...not that I think CB is going to go out of buisiness anytime, but I have seen 20 minute response bug fixes from the main MS2 devs...
The MS1 code is also mature, and has been beaten on by many folks for many years.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

If you want one stop shopping, get the CB trigger kit and a Megajolt box. Done.
