DIY ingition system using toyota parts

a friend of mine that has passed, told me about the possibility of using a toyota ignitor and high performance coil (say from the Camry) and convert the VW to a points-less high voltage ignition system. Has any one ever tried any thing like this? Or tried our experimented with anything like this? Looking forward to hearing from u.

There are certain Mitsubishi and Nissan distributors that can be ~easily modified to drop in, including a dual plug version...
There are many, many ways to skin that cat.

(Someone posted a Mitsu distributor recently modded like this)

When all is said and done, it's almost as easy/cheap to use a crank trigger setup and EDIS or CNP/COPs, and it ditches the biggest single point failure items in the ignition system entirely--- The cap/rotor/single coil.

Fully programmable MAP referencing spark maps with dead consistent timing is worth more than you can imagine.

I have had one of these in my ghia for approx 70K miles.
I am on my second set of points, the first set lasted almost 50K miles before the rub block wore down, forcing replacement.
I only have to adjust the points when the rub block wears down.
the contacts of the points still look perfect.

I have been trying to decide on which coil I should pair with this. It has a note that says it will handle a 4a draw

i found the schematics online for that module and built it!

ill tell you tomorrow how it works! the only change i HAD to do is a .33uF capacitor instead of the .22uF that is needed because I couldnt find it in my country!

The ignition module works great!!! ill have the same points forever! jajaj

it does work great and is sooo easy to build that it's totally worth it!
