(2) Stub axles from a 944 Porsche (Same as Type 181). Will fit on any Beetle Type 1 IRS trailing arm, allows the use of the bigger 100mm CV joints Type II (Bus) or IV (Thing/944/924). Threads are in excellant condition. Splines are damage. Left Stub knarled 1/4 on top. Right Stub starting to knarl 1/4 on top. Does not interfer with drum installation, still fully functional. $70.00 obo includes shipping.

How did this damage occur? I can only guess it was somehow related to running 5-lug Bug drums with deficient spacers. Can you furnish photos of the OTHER end of the splines (much more indicative of serviceability)?
Where are you (Nevada I guess?) and what would the shipping cost be to 98028?

BTW, they aren't side-specific ;)

These are from a 944 and my guess would be from the rear dics brake or wheel spacer. I only see this on the disc brake set ups. The only damage is to the top of the splines. Shipping is included in the $70.00. Here are the pictures you requested

Oops, I missed that
I run 944 disc brakes on the back of a couple of my Bugs and have never observed any wear like that (nor can I envision what would cause it) - but as you say, it shouldn't hurt the functionality any.
