That is a retro fit for an H-4 housing, it will not fit a stock sealed beams.
Has your car been converted to a H-4 housing? Quite common as it is a bolt in.
Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.

If you can not determine what kind of headlight is in your car today, I suspect this project is way over your head.

An H-4 housing looks a lot like:

from http://www.ratwell.com/technical/BoschH4.html page about bus lighting (same enough for beetle)

Sorry mate...didn't exactly understand. Yes the PIC you have is exactly what I have.I always presumed it was a H4 just wasn't very sure since I got it from a Benz 911.I presume then the headlights will be a descent fit

Had the same experience with my dad's beetle headlight replacement (http://prntscr.com/6exl3y). It did not fit on the car :(

Bought the headlight from a certain autopartswarehouse last mid January. the company said it was a sure fit on the 1965 beetle but unfortunately it's not. Called them for another replacement or complete refund but it was a long process.

even ebay.com are claiming that the headlights they have would really fit. not sure though

anyways, make sure that one will really fit on your beetle

Not L.E.D but projector.

I don't know how those led retro fits will work in the stock housings. I think you still need a projector lense of sorts.

And from what I've read led are not(yet) as bright or intense as HID.

I put HID's on all my VW's. As long as you have a H4 headlight assembly/housing you can put HID's in them.
