Alternator Mods

Post by sunbugone »

Just curious if anyone has ever made any modified alternator setups for Type 1. I see chico has a typeIII denso upgrade kit. I was pondering doing something similar. It seems these china made alternators fail frequently. I need to upgrade mine to 75amp but It has to last. Has anyone ever installed an alternator in the A/C compressor position and gutted the factory gen/alt assembly to use it simply as a shaft to drive the cooling fan? I know it is probably not cost effective at first, but it would be nice to have quality options when it comes to alternators. Not to mention getting something cheap and readily available from the local parts store should it ever fail

Somewhere along the way I remember seeing somebody took a GM one wire and modded housing (added material) and shaft to fit type 1 stand.... But that was a long time ago and a forum far away.... or some such nonsense....
