wire diamter, I'm an idiot

when vw lists the mm spec on the wire in its diagrams, are they talking in mm or mm^2? looking at scans and don't have a manual infront of me to spell it out. mm2 seems more likely, but I want to double check.
give a man a watch and he'll allways know what time it is. give him two and he can never be sure again.

Things are rarely just crazy enough to work, but they're frequently just crazy enough to fail hilariously.
