AEM wideband AFR wiring too sort, what can I do?

Post by 1938vw »

I have an AEM wideband AFR gauge that uses a Bosch LSU 4.2 sensor.
The sensor is fitted to my exhaust and the wiring loom isn't long enough to reach where I have my gauge in the speaker grill.
I've heard that splicing in wire will effect the operation of the gauge, something to do with voltage fluctuation.

What can I do? I can't seem to find and extension or longer loom. I'm lost!

I extended my harness with normal wire and saw no difference in readings, though your results may vary. I did order another harness for the gauge that I will use to extend to get rid of the extension wires so the colours match etc, but it is the same length as the normal aem harness.

You can buy or make an extension harness that uses the rectangle LSU 4.2/4.9 connector. It is easier to buy one since the connectors aren't that easy to source.

To find it I googled Bosch wideband extension cable. It was link #1 :)

You can buy the connectors and make your own.
But, it is easier to just cut the wires and extend them. It is standard stranded wire in the cable leading from the sensor to the connector, and from the connector to your gauge.

Super cheers buddy I had heard it was a special wire and lengthening it with copper wire would change the readings!
Chop lengthen solder go!

I know this is an old topic, but I just bought an AEM 30-4100 wideband gauge/sensor and found the wire a couple of feet to short. Can I just cut and lenghten the cable or is there a extension cable I can buy?
