Thank you .. would have PMd the note if the profile was filled out.

Please let me know if you need anything in the US posted.. I know American companies give you a hassle for international shipping... just sent a set of Superior Rims to Netherlands.

Old vs New cable ratings - Metric

Modern cabling for wiring have seen some changes in both makeup and thickness of cover compared to days gone by.

The older style goes like this :

5.75 Amp continuous = 9 strands x .30mm diameter wire, .65mm squared cross sectional area
8.75 = 14 x .30, 1mm squared
17.5 = 28 x .30, 2mm squared
27.5 = 44 x .30, 3mm squared
35 = 65 x .30, 4.5mm squared
42 = 84 x .30, 6mm sqaured
50 = 97 x .30, 7mm squared

Newer thinwall

11 = 16 x .20, .5mm sqaured
16.5 = 32 x .20, 1mm squared
25 = 38 x .30, 2mm squared
33 = 44 x .30, 3mm squared
39 = 56 x .30, 4mm squared
50 = 56 x .30, 6mm squared

That's from www.vehiclewiringproducts.co.uk and I'll check back to make sure I've copied it correctly. I have used their products on one or two projects (brit bikes).

Makes me wonder why VW used 6mm on 30 Amp circuits :? There's probably a good reason, but I'm no engineer!

there is a wire available here in north america at all electrical wholesalers it is refered to as either THHN or T90 NYLON it is available in most wire gauge sizes and many colours, it has a 90degreeC temp rating, and is deemed oil and gasoline proof

I use this wire almost exclusively in all my projects

the only down fall is that most of the time it can only be purchased in 300 meter rolls
