Making my 72' standard handle....

Check out this episode of Project Binky. No, It's not a beetle, but the concept should be the same. Move the suspension through it's whole arc, sans springs, and measure how much the steering angle changes throughout. Adjust tie rod heights and angles to minimize the changes.

How much this helps - I dunno? but Project Binky is cool! :P

I’ll have a play once the body is back on, just looking forward to actually driving it again now!

if it helps my 4inch beam isnt actually 4inches narrowed.... i cut my leaves down two inches either side them dimpled, all exact as if it was 4inch narrowed....

when i come to fit the arms the leaves are too short!

So next set of leaves, then measured how far the dimples were out from a stock beams edge, then copied with on my new beam and hopefully this should be a perfect fit.

absolute text book "trust no one and measure twice" example here folks lol

its more like a 3inch narrowed beam!

Try the GAZ shocks, they are adjustable and very reasonably priced. For every day diving I have my fronts set at "0" and the rears at "7", out of 20 detents. For auto-x I had very good results with the FR at 8 and RR at 10. I drove it home with those settings and it was VERY stiff, i can't imagine going stiffer on them.

I know it's an old thread but I had my rear GAZ adjustables set to 10 clicks, drove nice.
Fitted the front, set to 10 clicks, about ripped my spine out of my nostrils.
Dropped the front to 3 clicks.
Handles a dream now.

Similar dilemma Andy.

I'm on 165/60 up front on a 4.5j rim, would like to band them out to 5.5/6" to get a 195 on but then would need to narrow it couple inches.

Potentially better keeping the 4.5j with stock width and HD arb?

You wouldn't have to narrow the beam if you added the band to the inner half of the wheel.

That's interesting.
Would be nice if that works out! I'll see if I can get some measurements.

Those shocks are for K&L. They won't fit your 72.

My 67 bug has a 2 inch narrowed beam.
Drop spindles.
Discs and a wide 5 spacer.
2 x caster shims.
The copy BRM wheels and 145 tires are level with the wing edge with zero camber,
I cant get the front any lower like it is ,or the tire will touch. I might get some clearance if I put some camber into the front,
