While AWD is tempting, I'm just looking for cheap (and strong) 5x130 aluminum front hubs to go with the mongo front brakes with minimal suckage.

The cut down stock rotor/hat setup I have actually works perfectly, but is hugely inelegant//fugly and requires a 1" wheel spacer UNDER the hat, PLUS one under the wheel.
I want to make that all go away.
The stub and bearing may just end up being 3X the std ball joint stub strength tho.

The front suspension would need a bit of a redesign to go AWD, although probably not as much as you'd think.
Much easier on a super beetle as Mk1 golf struts etc can be (more or less) bolted in.

Nate already swapped a 911 front suspension into his Square, so almost anything is possible with a welder...

Note there is a lister here actively doing an AWD swap, using WRX bits.

Note I found a warning sign for those Aussie mosquitoes...

Just found out about common non-Porsche common wheel in 5x130---
some Dodge/Benz trucks/vans and newer Mercedes (possibly 12mm stud, but thats fixable).
Seem to be quite a few reasonably priced factory and aftermarket wheels for that app in many sizes and offsets.

Yeah, it's those ultra tall trucks Dodge makes with Mercedes, Sprintster, I think it's called. There were inly a few years with 5x130 PCD. The wheels are 16 inches, and you'd want the front wheels only. They're available new but a little spendy for steel wheels, IMO.

Search on Mercedes 5x130 wheels
Its not just Sprinter truck wheels, , 15"-22" dia, many widths, most higher offset around 50.
some AMGs, trucks, G Wagen

14"-18" steelies exist... but most choices are aluminum.

Found a source of thick wall seamless 4130 tubing, about $30-45 for a foot.
This would need machined to "finished" id of the new front double row sealed bearing.
The end would get threaded for a big nut/lock.
It would be welded into a bored stock steering knuckle, after press fit in the hole.

Found 38 x 9.58mm wall, that will work...
