Hello. I recently purchased an older mid travel sandrail that has coilover shocks (see attached photo) that I can't seem to identify the make or model, or find info on how to adjust. I would lIke to lower the front end ride height a little and make the front end a little less stiff. Can anyone point me in the right direction?older mid travel sandrail coilover adjust

Re: older mid travel sandrail coilover adjust
Ron, is there any indications as to the brand of shock? Usually the upper collar/land is movable up and down for some preload but from the picture if there are any places there for a specialty wrench to get a hold of it they can't be seen. I tried to get some more detail out of it but couldn't push it enough to seem much more.
Is there a spring inside or is the whole inner shock threaded? It is hard to tell if those are threads or a smaller spring (I have a good imagination )

Thanks for the reply. I thought there should be a way to adjust the preload as you state but I can't see any threads. The notched section you see on top continues down inside the spring, about half way to the bottom of the shock, then it stops and you can see just the shock body inside. I assume you can adjust the air pressure in the shock also with the shrader valve at the top but I don't know enough about these to know what that will do. There is no indication as to the brand that I can see, and I don't see where a tool would fit. But I did notice that the rear shocks, which match, have one less notch showing at the top. So I assume there is a way to adjust that.

What you are telling me is pretty much what I suspected I saw in the picture.
Is the Schrader valve for air or gas? If you let air out what happens or is that too much of a risk.
Roughly, where are you at and where will you ride? Maybe there would be someone around close to get some direct thoughts from.
If not, can some more shock pictures be taken to try to identify who made the shocks.

Thanks for the reply. I'm in Gilbert AZ. Haven't even taken it out yet but there are several places in the desert here and also the dunes in Yuma if I ever get sand tires etc. anyway, unfortunately I'm out of town so I can't post more pics right now. Thanks for your replies. Oh, and on the shrader valve, I don't know if it's gas or air, and since I don't know, I haven't messed with it.

If you don't know then I more than a little respect you for not messing with it. I don't think I have ever seen something like your shocks before.
We plan on being down in Casa Grande just after the first of the year and will stay for a while but no toys are coming with us. There are several STF guys close to the area too so maybe they will jump on the string before too long. I'll still keep looking around for what you have.
Try looking here: http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&page=1& ... r%20Shocks
There are 20 pages and I did not go through them all but some looked familiar. Does you shocks have an adjustment on the lower side by any chance?

Thanks for the link. I'll check it out. No adjustments on the bottom. I actually had a picture of the bottom of the shock. I will find it and post.

Wasn't able to post the photo of shock bottom. Must be too large a file or something. Not much to see there anyway. No adjustment.
