Mounting a sway to a narrowed split bus front end
Has anyone mounted a normal/regular width sway bar to a narrowed front end?

Hi ya Marc,
Yeah, make yourself one for your narrowed beam. You'll be amazed how it transforms the front of the bus in the corners.

I take it you have one on your bus. I'll try it out this winter then for sure. Actually I'm really amazed at how this thing handles in the cornersvwjim wrote:Hi ya Marc,

I haven't actually... made one, but not got round to fitting it yet.
Made a few and fitted them to customer's buses and they've all commented on the positive benefits.

I'm just mocking this up now and don't see how that'll work?Bruce2 wrote:Yes. Cut the ends of the sway bar off by an inch or two, then you can push it in deeper.
How much of a chop do you have?
Can it be cut in the middle and welded and maybe a plate added?

A sway bar is made from spring steel. After it is shaped, it is heat treated, then tempered. If you weld it at any point, you will upset this heat treatment causing a localized brittle area. In theory, it will then break there as the bar is flexed in use.

Dad successfully ran a welded swaybar on a circle-track VW-based late-model years and years ago...Initially it was just done for a template to have a new bar made from scratch, but it ended up working alright in that particular application as-is.

Do they need to be mounted to the beam also? or just the trailing arms?

I cut mine in the middle and then sleeved and welded it. Been on there for 10k miles with no problems so far
In theory it should fail, but it hasn't yet
