will a swingaxle trans from a 64 ghia fit a 68 bug tubes and all?i've been told by one guy it will and told it won't by another.any help you can give is appreciated.

It'll bolt in. You'll be stuck with 5-lug brakes unless you have about 15mm cut off the snouts of 4-lug drums so they'll fit on the short-spline axles, and the bell housing will have to be clearanced if you want to run a 12V (130-tooth) flywheel; that'll also require a self-supporting starter from an automatic or a special thick-walled adapter bushing to run a standard 12V starter. E-brake cables will be a little long (between the chassis and backing plate - they'll function fine but may hang down and snag on things). I can't recall if the short axle tubes present a problem with connecting the Z-bar.
A `64 isn't the weakest tunnel-type trans ever built but it's a close second. Be nice to it, especially on takeoff, and it could live with a larger engine.
