Marc is right, without opening it up there's no way to tell. Did you ask the trans builder?
An AH could be a double side cover trans or a single side cover, each with a different first gear, and different spider gears and side gears.
What is the part number of the intermediate housing? Its the casting that is attached to the front end of the main case. You can read the number from directly under the trans from the front.

AFIAK, there are at least 3 versions of the late gear carrier. The 311 301 173, an 081 version, and a 200 version.
By process of elimination he has the early type that uses the bolt to retain the pinion roller bearing.
This also means he has the weaker 10 tooth mainshaft, keyed 3-4 shifter hub, and the early type gear sets that require welding in high performance use.
