Spider gears "holder" instead of super diff

Post by ngobet »

I bought that on a swap meet and I was wondering what you think of it:

I initaly bought it only because I wanted good spare spider gears, but after looking at it, I have the impression it would be better than an original diff for a small engine combo.

what do you think, would you use it?

I believe it's the main workings of the old Beef-A-diff. Generally it's not considered a viable alternative to a Super-Diff. Although it does add the two additional spider gears, they are not adequately supported and thus do little to strengthen the stock diff.

Yes, you are correct..the old Beef-a-diff. It MIGHT be better then an open 2 spider diff, but I have never actually used one of these.

If I remember correctly, the Beef-a-diff was a fix by guys trying to put Corvair engines against a VW transaxle. Not the stronges thing in the world so it got re-invented into things like the super-diff et al.

A great paper weight and conversation piece but not much else from what I have been told.
