a newbie question...i know...but wondering how much oil is needed to fill the trans while UP on jack stands?
i know some oil will go down the swing axle tubes and fill up...but when back down on the ground, will run back into the trans case.
i don't want to over fill and waste.
thanks.

Make sure you can loosen the fill plug before you drop the old lube.
Pull the drain plug(s) while it's sitting on the ground to get as much of the old oil out of the axle tubes as possible...you can also jack up one axle at a time for a few minutes to help drain them back to the center section.
A "dry" trans takes ~6.3 US pints for initial fill; about 1 pt clings to the internals when doing a refill, so it'll take a little more than 5 pints before it starts running out of the fill hole.

Re: how much oil?
I had already drained the trans before I pulled...but I did lower the car onto the ground to get it all out...so far I've only put 2 quarts in...but not running the. At yet so I'll be putting more in when I have the time....it's messy for sure.
