I see what looks like a neutral switch just beyond the front mount.

It appears to be just under the head of the reverse shift rod? I've never seen this before, is this something you've seen?

A neutral or backup light switch would be expected to have two terminals, and this has just one....looks like an oil pressure warning light switch.
It's a little hard to make out in the picture, but it looks like there are a couple of brass plugs in there too....I'm thinkin' someone drilled some holes in the nosecone to get in there to manipulate a jammed-up shift rail, and then used whatever was handy to plug them.

Nothing factory:looks like someone needed to plug a hole,man made or otherwise.
