This is not correct. The letter indicates the gear cutting machine that was used to make the gears. This is why the tooth shapes are quite different from each other.

Using a .70 4th gear after a 1.26 3rd won't work with any engine. That hole is just too big.
Unless you're thinking of a 5 speed with the extra gear in between.

Well, I ended up going with a 4.12 r & p and a .77 Weddle 4th gear. Spacing of gears with my rotary motor is just about perfect. I am now always in the superchargers powerband so I've got my low end torque but still have that 8000 + rpm headroom to stay in gear when needed. All I can say is, wow, what a difference.....
