091 build for turbo bus
Picked up a couple 091 gearboxes to try to build for my turbo bus. Looking for tools.

Weddle should have them.. weddleindustries.com. Looks like you need a new mainshaft bearing too! LOL I suggest F.A.G. if you can still get them (they were still available a month or so ago).

I was waiting for someone to point that bearing out.
I hope the pinion teeth aren't damaged from driving on that bearing. They look ok, but I still need to dissassemble and get closer to those teeth.
I found an early input shaft today so I just need an 002 bellhousing now to fit it to my 68 bus.

The r&p looks ok to me. Usually ms bearing failure doesn't damage the opposite end of the shaft (pinion). But there's a good chance 3rd/4th gears are damaged. No biggie..stock gears are cheap and you might want to buy different ratios anyway. (they're not cheap, lol). Also, I suggest a new pinion bearing.

Where did the balls from the MS bearing go?

4th gear replacement and resleeving the housing will most certainly be required ..

Re: 091 build for turbo bus
The intermediate housing .. the bore where that mainshaft bearing resides. Main case usually requires resleeving, too.
Just from what we can see:
Resleeve
New mainshaft brg
New 4th gear
New 4th gear needle brg
Probably much more

Re: 091 build for turbo bus
I ordered a few tools from LongEnterprises so I can dissassemble .
Then I'll post more photos as they come apart.
There are 2 gear boxes. The one that's got the missing ball bearings hopefully will have some usable spare parts at least.

Would it be good to change 4th to a .77 and 3rd to a 1.14 for use in a bay bus with a 2276 turbo?

My van has about 230 hp. My .78 top gear is almost too high, but pretty good. A .80 might have been better. 27.4" tall tire, 4.86 R&P, 5500 lbs.

That's quite a small tire for a van. Yes, you'd do well to install taller gearing.

Re: 091 build for turbo bus
What size bearing race drivers are needed for the removal of bearings in the case housings of the 091 transaxle?
Wanted to pick up a set since I have none.
