Hi, just wondering if anyone has ever don an hydraulic clutch conversion on a bug before and what parts are needed to do it.
Thanks

Re: Hydraulic clutch conversion
There use to be a kit to connect a hydraulic slave cylinder to the clutch arm. It required cutting a hole for the master cylinder in the front cross-piece of the pan. I am not sure it is being sold now. One could probably design and make the brackets and rod themselves.
I went the harder way and used a sand rail type of pedal assembly. A lot of work and a lot of front firewall mods but it can be done. Swinging pedals can also be done but you might have to use a bell crank which would/could make checking and filling the master cylinder is awkward to say the least. Mounting the master cylinders on the firewall might also be done.

Re: Hydraulic clutch conversion
I got thinking about the conversion and I seem to remember that the bracket that was welded to the clutch pedal was for the clevis (from a brake pedal) to attach to. The clevis hole in the new bracket would sit out as far, and as level as the brake pedal mount does and the holes for the master cylinder were the same as the brake master cylinder. The only difference I remember was the master cylinder was a single chamber unit. It’s probably been close to 20 years since I have seen one thought so this is an old memory.
This is how I did mine but I don’t recommend doing it this way, it requires some body fire wall hacking and patching:

Re: Hydraulic clutch conversion
The Saco kit is still available.
Now with a braided stainless line instead of plastic.
Some like to use a 'Slave Saver' found from various vendors with it...

There is also the trick of using an annular ring throwout from a real car.
Here is one from from a Saab (i think)

Plus, Wally put one in his G50....

There's a bunch of different ways to skin a cat, here.
I'm going to just try out the Saco kit first.
Will report back...
