It might be a good idea to buy a set from a forum member already in the US.
I'm sure someone can set you up for FAR less than $550 for a set of VW jugs (Not OEM... VW), and you only have to ship `cross the pond once.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Just spoted the set Russ1302 sold on E-Bay a few days ago..

Went for <$50. I didn't see the VW logo , but those are almost certainly true OEM. (duh, Porsche jugs would be the 039xxx number )
I have a set in a mock up mule getting rusty... I guess I should take better care of them.
