mig welder

Post by Passatman »

Hi All,

I want to buy a mig welder to use at home but i don't know the right specs, can someone assist me. I know miller is a good brand so it would have to be in the miller brand of mig welder also with sheilded gas.

Millermatic 135 or 140, Lincoln 135+ or 140+, Hobart Handler 140 are all good machines.

Overall three things

1-Gas Option
2-Rotating (not clicking) knobs (speed and voltage)
3-Common mfg name with a Tweeko Gun tip

Congratulations.

Did they supply you with .023 wire and the correct tip?

actually it came with .030 wire one spool of shielded and one spool of non shielded wire. I have not used the non shielded wire yet. the shielded works great. I have repaired the battery compartment floor and finished installing the A piller. took me about a day to complete.

Had to mess with the settings just a little bit (turned down wire speed and lowered voltage a little from their recommendations) but after just an hour or so of practice I was welding. Perfect welds? Far from it :( but they were functional. I am only using the shielding wire no gas.

Just a suggestion.. next time you're at the welding supplier (get to know one .. and no a hardware store is not the place) ..

Have a sales rep demonstrate what the sound is like you want to hear for a good setup.
