I have an outlet that can make any bearing you need, they have made 1.9 and 2.1 WBX already.

Re: Type 5 is good BUT.......MAIN BEARINGS?????????
Old thread, i know, but..
I want to buy bearings for my 2276 oxy build, but i don't know the year of my block.. The dealer wants to know if it is a 82-85 or a 86-90 motor i have.
Can someone explain the difference between early/late bearings, please.
The block and bearings are at the machineshop, so i don't have them handy. The block nr is: 025 101 102
Thanks, Rune..

Look to see if the #2 main expects a dowel pin or a rod bearing'ish notch.
Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.

most likely a old style bearing case u have.
the later with 3 piece thrust bearing has a "B" after the partnumber.

What's the issue here do the t5 engines suffer the same faith as it's air cooled siblings ( lack of bearings ). I really need some bearings for my 2.1ltr t5 but have to pull the engine to check first.

I think the problem can be to get bearings for align bored cases.
Mine are std in case and .010 in crank and are available at least with CSP both in germany and sweden..
However, these blocks rarely need align boring..

Re: Type 5 is good BUT.......MAIN BEARINGS?????????
I am using Chrysler bearings for #2 and #3 and a Type 4 on #1 and #4.
I found a machine washer for $4.12 that fits the Chrysler O/D perfectly. I am just cutting them in half and making my own center thrust conversion shim. The only mods are a 2.5194 linebore, and a .023 thrust cut and approxiamtely a .045 thrust cut on the center main. The shim will support the full shoulder of a chrysler thrust bearing. These Clevite bearings are superior to anything out there for only $35 bucks. All one then has to do is get a #1 and #4 type 4 bearing....
The shim will drop in, but I will screw it to the journal with nice countersunck screws too.
So, the metal backed clevite thrust bearing will be backed up by a very sturdy steel shim that is wider then the Thrust shoulder.
I believe this setup preserves oil pressure better than a narrowed BMW bearing. In addition, the #1 main bearing shells will be a full sized type 4 also. With appropriate crush, the number 1 metal backed bearings should be very very sturdy....

That´s with a stock type crank mate
I also suspect something else to be a problem. While the center thrust is very good and nescessary on high power engines, the old style flange bearing trust will handle waay more than 250 hp. Somethings not right.
