Hi all,

Has anyone had any experience of using LOCTITE 5980 as an engine sealant for an ACVW motor? Good/Bad/Indifferent?

I'll need something when I come to rebuild the top end of a 1600TP, so basically for cylinder bases & pushrod tubes...

TIA

Paul

Pushrod tubes are normally assembled dry, and I like to use copper RTV for the cylinders, just the smallest amount to ensure a good seal with minimal squish out

I have tried a few different types of sealer for engines that I have built and for the last few years I have been using a sealer called Gasgacinch made in USA but available here in UK . Its a clear sealer. I use it on crankcases , pushrod tubes etc and never had any leaks. I was recently given a sample by 'elring' who make gasket kits for VW and other vehicles,of a sealer called Dirko +300 c, but as yet have not had chance to use it. This product is used by most heavy commercial vehicle manufactures so should be good. When I next rebuild an engine will try it and give report.
