Rocker arm studs won't unscrew

Post by 84im »

I'm in the process of installing a set of Pauter rockers on my stock 1600 dual port type 1 engine. I got the old stock rocker studs off one side, but the studs won't move on the other side.
I've used so much force I've started to strip the threads on the double nuts I'm using.
Any hints on how to get these serious stubborn studs out?

They are probably loctited in.
Take a small torch and heat the stud for a bit to break the loctite grip and it might work
Out.

+1. Yes heat, quench with penetrating oil (with lots of ventilation), repeat several times. Then try to bust loose after heating and before quenching. I would use a map gas burner first to avoid over heating. If that doesn't work then try oxy/acety but try to keep it from glowing orange. Keep at it and it will come loose!
