Hi! Can you help me with my configuration?
I have:
78.4mm crankshaft
brazilian 040 heads with 40x35,5mm valves, slihgtly ported and polished (exhaust port is 38mm)
I'm thinking of using slipper skirt AA pistons (cast version) 94x82mm cylinders cut to size
I have 137mm stock type 1 rods, or 137mm WBX rods (but these have 24mm pins, so i would need some adaptor bushing - any ideas)
stock vw rocker arms
What camshaft to use?
Can i use stock lifters?
I like low end torque, or all around power, not high rpm just for info...
This is a low budget build, so i would like to keep parts that can work from stock engine, to keep the costs down...
Please help!
Thank you!

Re: 2176cc configurations
I would use a Engle 110 cam along with there lifters and the standard rockers, I have seen these for a $100.00, use the standard rods to keep the cost down, you have not mentioned the carbs or exhaust, a set of 40mm IDF's and 1 1/2" exhaust would work well and the engine would have very good torque without reving it.

Re: 2176cc configurations
I can get Dellorto DRLA 36 carbs preaty cheap...i think they are in size just like IDF 40. Am I right?
The exhaust will be 38mm inside (i think this is 1 1/2")
I had in mind Engle 110 cam, but some of the guys here say that it isn't good...that there are other better all around cams, but I don't know them...that is why I'm asking
Thank you for answer!

Re: 2176cc configurations
I am just building a 2054 and will be running the 110, I have a similar requirement to you, I do not want to rev the engine past 5000RPM to make power, with the dellortos and the exhaust you have it will drive very well, keep the compression ratio to around 8,5 to 1 and do not fit to large venturi's, Gene Berge told me when I asked him what he thought of the Engle 110, he stated that it was then best all-round vw cam grind, it is a known quantity that has been used in thousands of engines with good resalts, every body will have a different idea.

Re: 2176cc configurations
I have just ordered all my parts from DRD, they are about to be shipped to Australia, I have not long finished the engine for my Ghia, 2276, it runs 11 to 1 compression, street eliminator, 48 DRLa's, 1/58" side winder exhaust, FK 87 cam, runs great.

It has been converted to IRS, close ratio 3rd and 4th, super diff, 4.125 ring and pinion, should do a sub 6 second 100 KPH time.
