Announcing the 2006 International Speedster/Spyder Meet
at Carlisle, PA
Thursday through Sunday, May 18 - 21, 2006
Yes, once again, we’ll be joining the New Jersey Replica Car Club (aka NJRCC) for a weekend of Great Cars, Great Rides, Great Times, Great Food and a Lifetime of memories at the 2006 Import/Kit Replicar Nationals at Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Their web site is here:
http://www.carsatcarlisle.com/schedule/import/index.asp
I have taken over the reins of event Chairman from Bruce Stumpp for 2006, after Bruce put in yeoman service for the past two years, and really put Speedsters/Spyders at Carlisle on the map. 2005 saw the largest number of Speedsters and Spyders (over 50!) ever seen at the Carlisle Import/Kit Replicar show, and we’re hoping for an even better showing in 2006!
The 2006 show will be held on May 19 - 21, and we’ll have an “Early Bird” arrival day on Thursday, May 18, with a special cruise that evening to the Camp Hill Country Club Restaurant.
New for 2006: Special Edition (the Beck Speedster and Chamonix 550 Spyder folks) are providing a brand new Beck Speedster Kit that will be assembled right at the show by members of http://www.speedstershop.com. Plans call for the build to start on Friday morning, and drive the show field in a completed car by the end of the meet on Sunday.
We are reserving a block of thirty (30) rooms at the rate of $110 per night (USD) under the name;"Speedster/Spyder Group" (same terrific lodgings as last year, right off of I-81) and the first rooms available will be in the main building. We’ll also have a Hospitality room at night, again, similar to last year, all inclusive in the $110/night room rate.
We will be known by that same name (Speedster/Spyder Group) for the Carlisle Import/Kit Car Show Registration (so we'll get a group Tent and, this year, a more central location on the show field). Make sure that you identify yourself as part of the "Speedster/Spyder Group" for the hotel AND Carlisle registration.
Hotel contact information can be found here: http://www.hotelcarlisle.com/default.asp
PLEASE DO NOT BOOK RESERVATIONS ON LINE!

Tentative Calendar of Events for the 2006 International Speedster/Spyder Meet at Carlisle
Thursday May 18’th:
Early Bird arrivals and “Cruise to Dinner” at 5pm (Dinner at a Camp Hill, PA, restaurant )
Friday, May 19’th
Throughout the day: Regular Arrivals and registration at the Carlisle Fairgrounds
Hanging out at the hotel and telling "War Stories" of the trip to Carlisle.
The usual Canada vs. USA micro-brew tasting (Will the new "Coorson", or is it "MolCoor", win?)
6pm: “The George Brown Memorial Cruise” [/size]
We'll be joined by members of our hosts, the NJRCC, and this will be a Poker-Style run on back roads through the beautiful surrounding Township, $5 entry fee, with a set of instructions and checkpoints along the way to pick up a playing card. Best hand wins free dinner for driver/passenger at “the Carlisle All-Star Cafe" at the end of the run, as we remember "Old GB" by doing what he loved to do - Drive his car on twistie back roads.....We'll also be joind by Henry Reisner from INtermeccanica, driving George's last Speedster.
Saturday, May 20’th
8:30am: Gather in the Hotel parking lot for group photo ops, then a group Parade to the Eastern Motorsport Museum. This was a big hit last year, and we thought we would repeat it as you always miss something the first time through, and the twistie back roads getting out there are a BLAST! We’re planning a terrific ride through the picturesque Pennsylvania countryside both to and from the Museum, and will be parading right back to the Carilsle Meet grounds after the Museum.
If you pre-registered on Friday, then Zip right in and park in the new, grassy, more centrally located Speedster/Spyder area, or;
Registration for those who did not register on Friday, then join us on the field.
Rest of the day: Hanging out at the meet, eating, drinking, browsing the flea market, touring the manufacturers booths, watching the Dyno and Autocross track action, you know.....all that stuff! And don’t forget the Carlisle Tailgate-Style Cookoff!!
4pm: Raffle Drawing (Save those tickets!)
5pm: Group departure and Parade back to the Hotel (no street racing - this is Carlisle/Middlesex Township, after all, where traffic enforcement is second to none!)
6:30pm Dinner in the Glendale Room at the Hotel Carlisle (YES! No waiting for the Citroen folks to leave!! - also, NO Black Tie for this group!!)
7:30pm or so: Presentation of awards for “Longest Distance Driven, Longest Distance Trailered and other awards to be announced
8pm: After Dinner Speaker: Kevin Hines, speaking on: “The History of Replica Cars from Brazil”
After Dinner: Scramble to the Local Go-Kart track for a continuation of the “Grudge Match” from Last year - Will Norma Stumpp regain her crown from 2004? Will Carey Hines get out of the pack? Will Jerome finally finish first? Will Gordon ever get out there? And where is "Diesel John"?
Sunday, May 21’st:
Last Meet day, and departure whenever anyone’s ready.
3pm: Drawing for the car give-away (Bill Drayer is always there, as well as Alan and Kim Merklin, and Al Shapiro won last year’s Red, Fiat 124 Spyder - not too shabby, Al!!)
All in all, another great meet is planned for 2006, and since we always have the folks from Canada joining us, we’ve become the International Speedster/Spyder meet. In addition to our friends joining us from Canada, we would also love to have folks join us from Europe, the Caribbean and all other Replica-Friendly countries - with or without your cars.
You've been reading us on the Internet for years, What better way for all of us to meet???
So mark your calendars - May 18 - 21, 2006, at Carlisle, PA.
