Re: Tight Steering Wheel
Tire size/pressure, wheel offset, and caster all can affect steering effort; so can a binding component (balljoint or tierod end for example) or a hydraulic steering damper that's beefier than necessary. Rarely is it due to a steering box problem, unless it's leaked out its lubricant or some jackass has overadjusted it. The factory spec for zero lash on the input shaft is 11° either side of center with a new box, for a used one it's only 5° - so if someone's adjusted the box in an attempt to remove any play outside of that center 10° of travel, they've probably overdone it.
Bob Hoover wrote an excellent article on the subject of sloppy steering, most of it applies as well to steering that's too tight: http://bobhooversblog.blogspot.com/2006 ... t-ten.html
