Pea Shooter to Thing thru der bumper

Post by Kubelmann »

I want to take a pea shooter and adapt it to a stock Thing for a low cost exhaust.

1. remove tail pipe receivers.
2. cover tail pipe receiver opening.
3. adapt and install tail pipe receiver to ends of stock pea shooter.
4. make a prototype tail pipe for others to copy.
5. perhaps this has been tried before.

Let me know.

i did it.

stock leistritz beetle muffler. i had a hammered thing muffler to use as a pattern. i used genuine tailpipes, lasercut the flanges for them, made outlet tubes and welded them to the muffler. i'll try to post some photos tomorrow or over the weekend.

i was going to make more of them but making the tailpipes was an issue. they are a very tight bend and i could not find a shop that had tooling to make the bends. i'm sure if i looked longer and harder i might find someone.

CIP1 has pictures of the various tail pipes including the Thing. I currently have a complete new stock 73 exhaust system if we need any measurement. Check these out:

A weld in kit to modify a pea shooter for a Thing would be a cool product. You could even sell it without tail pipes and have the buyer get there own from the above site or from another source. I look forward to seeing any pictures you share of your project with this.

Hey, I found these vanagon tail pipes for $17 new
