Matt:

I have a set-up on my bug with a CB hideaway header. Had to move the wastegate to the collector. I was getting boost creep on my 2165 at 18 psi. Found out that the stock location for the waste gate was too small and the exhaust hole was smaller in diamter than the flange. Worked great for me.

Thanks JR! I had a feeling the stock location was pretty bad. Ok for a 1776 making 8 psi, but not sure it could handle proper power like yours! Did moving the wastegate location completely cure the creeping?

Matt:

It did cure the creeping boost. Better boost control can be obtained by replacing the Cb performance wastegate for something like a larger TIAL wastegate. I have 2 wastegates from CB, so I can always use the original wastegate location to install the additional wastegate. Still I think that the best location is at the header, at the middle of the curve with the outlet looking towards the front of the car. I am aiming for 22 psi. I have run up to 18-20 psi for about 5 seconds with 100 octane. No pinging on 7.5:1 compression. New engine almost together, its a 2332, K8 cam, 42x37 CB supermag heads with large port and polish. 48mm blowthru double dells with large 22X12X3 inches air to air intercooler. Changing air to water intercooler (I will encase it) soon. My aim is 400 plus horsepower, street driven, high 10´s on the quarter mile with slicks.

Can you advise on the carbs jetting using 40mm venturies and 36mm modulator rings. Main jets 1.85, airs 1.60, idles 0.65. What do you think? Are the times and power goal possible? Tranny is fully prepped.

That looks superb Matt! Who's bus is it going into? Any chance of it running at Big Bang? :D

Had a look at the bug you fitted the chargecooler to (and did the door panels for, etc) at the Volksworld show, looked fantastic, really well set up

What liquid chargecooler did you use?
Did you fab one?

I am just going to build my first turbo for my Thing. I do have a nice little radiator from an aircooled Vanagon air-conditioning system that I think would work great for pumping the water through and cooling it.

Yes the chargecooler is home made using a an air to air core from an Audi.

Where did you get the air filter. I'm going to be running a plumb back too, but I'm having trouble finding a filter.
