NOS Rayjay turbo setup

Here's a good question. If you had an NOS in the box old school Rayjay turbo setup for a 1600, would you open it up and use it or just keep it in your showcase? Mind you, these turbo kits have been out of production for over 20 years and finding one is pretty hard, let alone an NOS one complete with instructions.

If it's the one that blew thru the stock carb then keep it behind the glass. It's worth more to look at than any power gains it'll give.

It's a draw through. Carb is relocated off to the left side and is fed into the turbo which sits on top of the intake manifold. There's no blow off valve and if you read the instructions, they mention that pressures of up to 40 psi can be achieved if the motor is modified internally, meaning the kit is meant for a bone stock 1600. Dunno if that's possible but worth mentioning. I've heard they can double the hp of a stock 1600.

They got smart with this kit. It has an oil pump cover adapter which feeds out to an oil filter, from there it goes up into the turbo to ensure that it gets clean oil.

Does it use the stock carb on a cast aluminum elbow type manifold?

The kit in NOS condition changed hands recently for a few hundred doillars ....Good for a stock 1600cc or a collector if you go bigger than 15600 or so or add a cam might prove to be too small stock kit enabled a 1600 d/p to run high 16 second s Additional futzing with the carb per instructions included with the d/p kit gave add'l 25 hp ...your choice fun to drive or fun to look at???
