Turbo EFI Build First Startup for a Newb

Post by Sideswipe »

So I'm finally at the point where I've gathered all the parts I need for the turbo EFI build on my 1955cc Ghia. Here's my build sheet:

T03/T04 .48 AR Turbo from Shag
Megasquirt 2 V3.57 with relay board, harnesses, sensors, etc from Mario at Dubshop
48lb injectors, 255 lph fuel pump, FP regulator, etc all From Mario at Dubshop
Crank trigger ignition setup from Mario at Dubshop
A1 stainless Turbo header
CB dual 40mm throttle bodies
Turbosmart WG
Turbosmart BOV
Turbosmart Boost Tee

I've already downloaded Tuner Studio. Mario of course supplies a base tune on the Megasquirt ECU. What's the first startup procedure? Should I expect to have to make a lot of adjustments, or will the base tune be pretty close?

This is my first adventure with turbo and EFI on a aircooled VW, and with digital tuning, so thanks for your help.

I didn't know they made Ghias in 1955? :|

Just kidding. Welcome to the forum.

Mario is pretty much a god round here. His base tune will no doubt be enough to get you started well. Is the motor brand new?

If not, you'll find it a little easier but even still I wouldn't worry. Mario's AFR and Ignition maps will no doubt be good enough to use for some time. My motor's using MS2 as well. Once you have the motor running, you can probably just turn on "Tune Analyze Live" and drive it. That's pretty much what I've done with great success.

I assume Mario has given you some instructions?

For a first timer I would advise to consult Mario on a live remote tune session. Will save much time and frustration. Something to consider.

Yeah, Mario is providing that as well.

I'll see if Mario can do a remote tuning session for me once I get everything installed. I will definitely need some guidance with this.

The motor isn't new, it's pretty well broken in. I'm receiving all the stuff from Mario tomorrow, I'll see if he included any instructions. If not I'm sure he'll help me by phone or chat. He's been pretty responsive so far to all my newb questions.
