Re: 1600 turbo build thread
Agreed. I will most likely follow the path I was on with the CB stuff.
Actually I found some videos on YouTube from CB. I'm seriously considering just copying his recipe that is posted on them. Hard to argue when they manufacture the parts, assemble, dyno, and post the combo and results.
Here is one he posted. Hurtful part is he used mini wedge on it. Those are pretty pricey when I was looking at Panchitos ($2100+ compared to $600 or so).

Here is a 2332 with Panchitos. Bit less hp but still I pressive.

Where are you coming up with the 2100 for mini wedges? The price listed is for a set, vs. the Panchitos that are priced per each.

Re: 1600 turbo build thread
I see he's using W650 springs in both of those. I wonder why that's necessary? Seems like a lot of extra weight on the drivetrain.

Re: 1600 turbo build thread
Cuz they are awesome. I run them in everything too. But if you aren't planning on revving more than 6k, they are probably overkill.

Re: 1600 turbo build thread
Well I'm not planning on it....but I guess you never know. If it happens to make power to 7500 then why not??!!
I saw that the motor with the Panchitos made max power around 5200 rpm. With the mini wedge it doesn't say.

Re: 1600 turbo build thread
Max power and "power" are two very different things though. Mine probably peaks at 6 or 6500, but it'll keep me stuck in my seat hard until it hits the rev limiter at 7500. Granted, in all circumstances other than racing on a drag strip, mine pretty much increases in boost until redline. Yours will be very different and you may actually feel the power drop off. I never do, but its probably also increasing until the turbo hits its target.

Re: 1600 turbo build thread
Sure. Only thing I'm really thinking is what happens down the road. I know I've read the Panchitos are awesome. But that they are also maxed out from the get go. So the mini wedge is definitely in the back of my mind. There is plenty of meat on them for future upgrades. I know my combo won't be wringing out every last hp just yet. The turbo surely isn't ideal. Something I can upgrade over time if it needs it

Re: 1600 turbo build thread
Man so was I really that far off the mark? In those vids he posted the parts. I was planning to get a
Web 86b cam
.575" Valve Lift with 1.5 Rockers (but was probably going to use 1.4 rockers Which still would be 552 lift)
300° of adv duration
260° of duration at .050"
112 LSA
With the mini wedge heads he has a
#2301

Dur. @ .050'' 273°
Lift @ cam .374"
Lift w/1.25:1 .467"

Adv. Duration 321°
Dur. @ .050" 270°
Lift @ cam .378"
Lift w/1.25:1 .472"
107 LSA
Both of those engines he built we're around 300hp. I'm surprised at the fairly low lift and high duration.

Is he only running 1.25:1 rockers on those engines? I thought you were planning on 86a.

Yeah 1.25 on both. I thought maybe the A was a little soft.

Re: 1600 turbo build thread
When mine starts pulling its at 7500 before you know it. Also, a friend just used a set of the EMPI gtv-2 cnc heads. They are beautiful. I will look at these next time I need a set of heads. Or even look at these mini wedge AA heads.

That’s what I run with Joe Gibbs DT50 oil and my oil pressure is always good.
