,,, and use a counterweighted crank, even a stocker with welded on counterweights.petew wrote:So what you're saying is, "get it balanced".
(DPR and DMS make them that exactly way and they have been winning races for 40 years)
A stock T1 crank with no counterweights is ~guaranteed damage between ~5600 and ~6200 RPM.
It won't die instantly of course, pounding out the center mains in the case takes time, but engines do not self heal.
Balancing a stock crank probably helps reduce the severity, but, done even perfectly does not fix the problem.
Its a design issue, it simply wasn't designed for high RPM, nor tested. It flexes in the middle.
A truly bone stock T1 engine probably couldn't hit 5600 RPM at WOT in neutral by design.
(carb was too small, valve float etc)
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

That poor thing suffered a slow, painful death by idiot.
Did it ever stop or did they finally shut it down because they could hear it over the radio?
