Light weight wrist pins

Post by sidemarkers »

Looking to upgrade my 15 year old wrist pins on a turbo 2276. Who has experience with lightweight wrist pins, does someone sell titanium pins?

It's a personal preference, but I wouldn't make anything lighter up there.Top end works pretty hard on a turbo.I think you said a mouthful when you said "15 year old".Sounds like you had a winning combo to me.Don't poke the bear.lol

I agree, but I am always looking for upgrades. I was reluctant to try the dual tapered aluminum push rods too, but they ended up working much better than either the cheap alum or the noisy cromos I had. If I can cut reciprocal weight with a superior metal like titanium, AND not have a fatigue issue, I would strongly consider it.

I run them on a turbo engine and ran another set on an 8,000 rpm drag engine, never a problem. If you hold one in one hand, and a stock one in the other, you will ask yourself why you didn't do this before.

I got both my sets new from CB.

You will have no trouble with them. What are you going to use for clips? I'm using spiro-locks, but stock will work fine. Just talking grams difference, no big deal really.

So am I to assume that teflon buttons will no longer work?

Yes, the Teflon buttons work just fine. I've never used them because they just felt heavy to me compared to other types of clips.

One good thing about them is they could never fall out!

Wow. I didn't know the buttons were that heavy! Each wrist pin is 23 grams lighter than the one that comes with the cima piston. A pair of buttons for a wrist pin weigh 16 grams. Depending on the weight of clips I could save around 35 grams EACH piston. Who knows the weight of clips?

If your not going for a 'World Record' land speed or dragstrip  ? I would use the buttons , they just make the build way easy!!

Some one on thesamba.com posted the carnage of an engine where one of the buttons fell out for some reason.
The wrist pin slid out and wasted the engine.
Make sure your pistons don't travel too far out of the barrel at the bottom of the stroke.

Failure, because he used teflon buttons on slipper skirt pistons....

Must say I am pleased with the quality of these wrist pins. The pins combined with new circlips saved over 5.3 ounces compared with the stock cima pins with teflon buttons!

So far so good. Tuning is almost done and up to 12 lbs boost went from a 112 lobe center to a 110.
