Re: T4 1971cc - Draw Through Turbo - VW Splitscreen
Ok the starter I got from my brother in law was in a bad shape. So I bought another one at the JunkYard yesterday. From a VW caddy 1.9 TDI.
So I matched the holes, and it fits.. very easy job. My only concern is that it will not fit under the car.. The solenoid is on top, and thats were the fuel tank is located. I was thinking to turn it around but them it will hit the driveshaft. So wel need to make it custom again
But then , wauw it spins the engine great!
Then connected the ignition, and Fire in the hole! Its starts directly.. (even with the long intake)
Unfortunately my fuel pomp did not arrive yet so I cannot run it long. (I hope i get it tomorrow)
One other issue, the screw thread of the alternator is bad, so I cannot install the belt.. and the oil pressure switch is leaking itself.. (will buy new one)
But wauw it sounds great! even without an muffler..
to be continued!

If you get one from a std 5 speed TDi etc, its snout is very long, so it would need a thick spacer to work.
(probably around 1")
Good news: The manual starters are ~infinitely more common.
The other good news: with a thick spacer, you could clock it so the solenoid sticks out sideways ~easily.
Bad news is i don't know exactly how thick it needs to be, but you have much more motivation...
Spacer needs to center on the hole in the trans, and have another centering hole on the other end.
It could be welded on flanges on a lathe turned center bit, clock the flanges as needed.
Aluminum best, but mild steel would work.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Yes exactly, I can also make the spacer on the outside.. instead between the starter and gearbox...
I will do some measurements with the gearbox and starter only to see how many room we have..
Ah first we will do the camburn Hope I get the last parts tomorrow..

Ok got the cam burn done, for 14 minutes.
I changed the main jets to 155 and air to 180.. Much better now. But difficult to rev or good idle after revving the engine.
To me it looks like the plenum under the carb is creating this issue. Now some fuel still stay at the bottom. I will remake the plenum that no fuel can stay in there... also will hook up the AFR gauge. + need to fix my Dynamo..

Nice good to see the engine running! Is the revving problem solved already?

Remember you want to limit it to 24* not lock it at 24.
