Re: NEW plan - 1600 TURBO + oval + downunder
My wife headed off on a training retreat this week, taking the family wagon with her. So, I've been ferrying kids around to a multitude of appointments/assemblies/get-togethers on some of the hottest days we've had in a while. All in the beetle (sans air-con). The hottest of them was yesterday. It got to 42degC (108F). I won't pretend I didn't miss the air-con. However, what heartens me is that the car is more than up to the task. The only nasty thing it does is leak a bit more oil. I didn't have the data logger going yesterday, however I could see oil temps in the sump. On the way home yesterday, it was already very hot. I'd say around 38degC (100F) at 11am when we were coming home on the freeway. The oil temps never got above 90degC (194F). Of course I wasn't flogging it and it wasn't as snappy as on a cool day, but it runs really cool. Pretty great stuff.
Very pleased I built it with a deep sump and extra oil cooler. I'm also sure the doghouse style cooler helps.

F that...I get pissy when the temp stays below 32°F for a day at a time. Our time will come though. Usually its Jan-Feb for us down here.

F that for real! I never want to shovel snow or scrape car windows again. We saw about 81 degrees here today, but a few days ago it was down in the 40's! That's no good for me!

Well, I'll be hiding inside again today. It's supposed to get up to 111degF (44C). I'm gonna go do some thing outside before it's too hot.
Thankfully Christmas day is only going to be 79degF (26C) now. We thought it would be well above 100.

I have a BN4 in the frunk... and good AC, so I'm all season...
Although working on it outside when its 100f++ and 100% humidity isn't a thing you want to consider.
I'd rather build an engine from assorted spare parts in 3 feet of snow and 10F.
(BTDT it still runs 25 years on)

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Well, it's a new record for this summer 115degF (46C). Needless to say, I'm hiding in the aircon drinking "shandies".

Nice! But not good for being outside at all! That's when I like to do all my planning or bring something inside to the A/C to work on. Wife won't let me bring carbs in though! Although I did sneak one in tonight! It hasn't had fuel in it for a few years and I only brought in the baseplate!
