Re: NEW plan - 1600 TURBO + oval + downunder
This week's fun... The local authorities require 2 speed wipers, a windscreen washer and a working demister to get certification in my car with a larger motor. Ridiculous but true.
Not amazing, but light weight, effective decoration and close to done. Now for some aircleaner and an extra filter for dirt...
And finally...
Dog with a beanie!

Thinking about how to fit my aircleaner. Has anyone else gone to the trouble of building a "cold air intake" style of thing to try and get cool air to the intake?

Lol. No if you got it on the top half of your engine tin, beside engine-lid standoffs, you wont get much cooler air from anywhere.
Better to be blown than to suck!

Re: NEW plan - 1600 TURBO + oval + downunder
This weeks fun is making an intake for my proper aircleaner that I can hook the blowoff valve and the oil scavenge tank breather into.
Mocked up...
Welding, welding... btw, the smaller bend is genuine VW metal from a 1960' bug seat frame.
Painting, painting, heat lamping, curing...
$75 bucks worth of bends and hoses I misordered and will have to sell off on ebay.

Today's victories...
All new inlet with proper filter and vent for the oil scavenge tank and proper working rear brakes, now I've adjusted them properly. Don't ask.
Today's ongoing defeat...
Stupid, leaking sump plug. Grrr. I'll have to drop the oil and seal it up better tonight. Fun times.

Look on the bright side, at least it's easy to get to.....imagine a leaky cam plug or rear main...life couldn't be better really

Yeah but, I had two goes at getting it right last night and I'm still not convinced I've solved it... even with lots of silicon. I suspect, I know, the sump plate is warped. Got a new one on order. Hopefully that will sort it. Gotta drive it 2 hours in traffic tomorrow morning, lets hope it's not an oil shower all the way.

At least its not dripping on an exhaust pipe somewhere. I think that is the most embarrassing. How does your decklid look with that new filter there?

Sump plate nuts only need 5 ft. lbs. or 60 in. lbs. torque..... any more and you can and will warp the plate.

The small vacuum hose comes off the vent line for the oil scavenge tank. The scavenge pump works better when it's not drawing in a vacuum. Of course you want the air it sucks in to be filtered like the inlet air. The 1" hose returns the air from the blow off valve back into the inlet tract. We can't vent the blow off valve to the atmosphere due to emissions laws.
Kangaboy, the old leak sprayed oil all over the collector. Very stinky!
Drove the car to the conference today. It got here ok and doesn't seem to be leaking... much.
