2,4 type4 turbo 500hp -on gasoline- goal
As I am in the process of building up my new type 4 turbo, I'd thought I'd share some parts pics and thoughts here.
Bore: 98mm (cast alu cylinders, plasma coated, one-off's) - update: killed those. 98mm birals AA - killed the pistons with those, my bad - now 102mm Deutz cylinders.
Pistons: JE custom ones.
Stroke: 74mm (Oettinger)
Rods: Pauter turbo-spec (heavier)
Heads: TP billet with type 1 port orientation and Ti-valves 48x41
Head studs: Raceware
Cam: Pauter, off-the-shelf - update: JPM113-110LC
Rockers: Pauter billet 1,48 ratio
Lifters: TP type 1 tool steels, light-weight version
Pushrods: TP Dual tapered alu
Oil-pump: TP dry sump 26/38mm
Turbo: Borg-Warner 7670 (same as last years), update: EFR7670 Twinscroll.
Most important job left to get done is having the seats and guides installed. Will have to wait a bit (unfortunately) before I can send the heads out to get that done.
As I am using the same turbo as was on the old 2,20 ltr (103x66) engine, I can't wait to see how the torque lines will compare on similar boost levels.

Would be a fraction of the cost of nickasil, use std tooling and compatible with ~all existing ring technologies.
Rework would almost be trivial once you had a process down.
(you could use this on pistons & combustion chambers too...)
You can plasma spray darn near any alloy (or even some impossible to alloy combinations of ...stuff) on just about anything.
I was wondering why that wouldn't work.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Pile: I've read some articles on the industrial process side of plasma coating as well, but these aren't exactly done like that I understood.
These went with a batch of other race stuff that was coated at the same time and actually costed more then nikasil coating would have... Only a few small-numbersportscars have had this done in series. One of them being the Veyron..(not kidding)
Should be even better for it. They had great result with this special coating and the japanes piston rings that were ordered with them.
The cylinders were actually meant for the Apfelbeck project, but as these sat already for a while and I was ready for an engine now, I was allowed to use them
I think they should hold over 2 bar of boost easily

Cool, hopefully the cost will come down greatly once in wide use.
There are also some "flame spray" coatings that may also be of use here and there.
(similar process idea, lower temperature)
for many uses it makes better (and cost effective) repairs than welding, and you can "spray" a wide variety of stuff.
Visualize a 3D printer spraying aluminum. Or Titanium.

I have designed many parts that are in production using plasma spray or HVOF to apply Stellite 6, Tribaloy T400, T800, and chromium carbide, which is why I asked. the third slide on this page, http://swaintech.com/ is my double poppet for class 8 diesel truck EGR valves.

When will be the deadline when it should be ready ? I don't know how to wait for the result
Something happened or U sold your last engine?
If U have any more information available I would enjoy it (Something like how far U r going to spin it or how much cam it gets.

I want to drive to england this summer, so there you have it...It won;t be fully tuned then I think though..
Cam is somewhere in between en web 86b en 86c comparitive wise. Don;t know the exact grind letter anymore.
It will spin as far as its still making power. Considering how well these heads should flow and the light valve train, that could be pretty high

These have not been flowed in type 4 form, but when the valves and valve seats are installed, I will have them flow tested myself

Good, then you dont have to guess the power output and just make sure you build the engine accordingly. It was a major day last week when both my friends and my heads went out to get valve seats, guides and (Ti) valves installed!
Hope they get back soon (few weeks) and we can finally start building something!
