2276 Fuel Injection Conversion & My introduction

Post by Zander »

I don't think I've ever properly introduced myself so here goes:

My name is Ryan Zander and I'm a Volkaholic

I recently finished up my bus build in order to have something to tote the wife and family around in.
Image
It has a 2007 and a 6 rib running on MS1 via a kit I got from Mario at the dub shop.
Image
It runs so great I just couldn't wait to convert the bug to EFI as well. I can't say enough about Mario, he is a truly stand up guy and has helped me tremendously with the Bus and also most recently with the bug. The guys products are so well thought out and top notch.

So on the bug....
image(7).jpeg
It is a 2276 with a To4E I got from Shag (again a super stand up guy I would recommend to anyone). Its got a 6 rib too  with folts axle conversion. Here is how it was:

So after I got bit by the EFI bug I've been collecting some parts and researching what I'd like to build. I scored a good deal on some MS parts and all snow balled from there. I really loved the way Vee Dub Nut's build was turning out and I contacted him about purchasing his old intake and charge pipe that he had originally planned on using before going baller with stainless :D He was super cool and said as long as I paid shipping it was mine. He didn't even want money until he had already shipped it and knew a price. What a score, and a great start for my build. So yes this will look a whole lot like VDN's build. He said he was cool with me copying him and I promised if we both made it to the same show I'd keep my decklid shut. :P

So far:
Made the apron removable for easy maintanance and engine removal in the future. Wish i would have done this a long time ago. Its so nice!

Relocated the wastegate to the collector on a cb hideaway header

Started mocking up parts

Parts
Turbosmart Vee Port Pro from Marty (thanks for the fast shipping!)

Id1000 Injectors
Bosch 044 pump
Golan Fuel Filter
Aeromotive FPR
Turbosmart Ultragate 38 Wastegate
MS3x on 3.57 board (mods done by The Dub Shop)
Full Dub Shop custom wiring harness
Dub Shop Hidden crank trigger kit
Edis (direct fired)
Snow performance water injection

I plan to run gas and e85 and hope to get past the 12.1 sec 1/4 mile I've been stuck in. Im dyin for an 11!!! Its got more in it, I just can't tune a Holley. That's all I can think of now. I'll add more pics as I make progress.

Ryan

Saweeeeet!

Glad the parts are going to get some use. Looks like you have a killer build going on.

Question, how did the welds look like on your CB header? I had one completely missed on mine. The rest seemed ok, but overall I didn't get the warm fuzzys from it. I think someday down the road when I have the coin, I'm going to jump over to the A1 header and have it all ceramic coated.

Whats the specs on your motor?

And the million dollar question, gonna be done by the classic? We'll have to park side by side LOL.

Oh, and yea, the removable apron is the ONLY way to go.

Don't know why I didn't do mine before. Really nice you can leave the full exhaust and turbo installed and pull it.

Nice!

Huge props for Mario and Shag. They have both helped me to get where I am today with my build and I will continue to support them in the future.

Dude, was your bug at the last TX classic, I remember it. Million dollar question from me too, are you going to have all together in time for this years classic?

I was looking at your parts list for the EFI/turbo setup...it's like you read my mind, those are all the good parts right down to the Golan fuel filter. You'll love those ID1000's they flow like a firehose but have a buttery smooth idle.

AS41 case
82x94
Lightened flywheel
Forged Crank
Forged H-beam rods
Mahle P&C
Engle 120
CB Round port heads

All my welds on the cb header were good to go. Must have been lucky :D I did check them all after reading about your issue. Man, I'd love to make it to the classic. I'm sure I can have it done by then, its just the issue of the 8hr drive. But I do have family in Austin, so maybe. Would be super fun.

I had my car at the classic '08 and '09. I'd really love to go this year to meet a couple of you guys. Even if the cars not done I'll try to make it.

I got a lot of my parts list from reading some of your posts, Fuel filter etc. After all who doesn't trust a ninja? Only bad part is I ordered the 48mm injectors thinking that's what fit the cb endcastings. I'm in the process of getting them swapped out or getting just the purple adapter hats to be 60mm.

That's great Ryan! Nice to see you stepping to EFI. Mario is good with the Megasquirt so you are in good hands.

The purple hats may not be the best option for you, mine have the filter located there, and a huge gaping hole at the top of the actual injector. You may need to stick with the swapping out plan. Good choice on injector though. Pricey, but should definitely be worth your while. Awesome looking build you've got going, good luck!

Thanks for all the kind words guys. Made a little more progress........

Got some silicone couplers and test fitted.
Welded on a pipe to locate BOV.
Mocked up intake (need one more coupler)
Made an exhaust dump. Going to work on a muffler setup as well.

Also received my adapter hats to make the ID1000's work.

Oh, and also received a few parts to get busy plumbing in:

The 044 is quite a bit bigger than the walbro on my bus and the Golan filter is a pretty impressive looking piece.
